1 Samuel 30:6

“Moreover David was greatly distressed because the people spoke of stoning him, for all the people were embittered, each one because of his sons and his daughters, But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God.” (NASB)

STRONGS HEBREW/GREEK ORIGINS

“Moreover David was greatly distressed because the people spoke of stoning him, for all the people were embittered, each one because of his sons and his daughters, But David strengthened (chazaq: repair, hold, prevail, encourage, courage, become strong, be courageous, be firm, be resolute, hold up, sustain, support) himself in the LORD his God.”

SUMMARY

… but David strengthened, repaired, supported and encouraged himself in the LORD his God.

MEDITATION

Obviously, my point lies within the end of this verse. Great calamity had just come to David’s entire community and he was deemed responsible. He didn’t understand nor did he see God’s hand in any of it at the time – nearly all that they knew was destroyed. Yet his reliance and trust in the LORD was tried and found true. When even those who loved and respected him turned on him, David ran right to where his strength was found. Today, I encourage you, in whatever you are facing, strengthen yourself in the LORD. Reflect back on all that God has done on your behalf. Rejoice over the reality that He is in control and His ways are perfect. Rest in Him today. Strengthen yourself in the LORD!
