1 Timothy 6:8

”If we have food and covering, with these we shall be content.” (NASB)

STRONGS HEBREW/GREEK ORIGINS

”If we have food (diatrophe: sustenance) and covering (skepasma: raiment, clothing), with these we shall be content (arkeo: to be enough, suffice, content, to be strong, satisfied).”

SUMMARY

If we have food to sustain us and clothing to cover us, with these shall we be content and satisfied.

MEDITATION

In a world where the more you have seemingly defines your success, may we turn to The Word. Although I do not believe we are to be poor and without, I’m assured that we are not to seek after the unnecessary luxuries of this world. It is more important to possess eternal things that cannot be purchased than earthly collections that will pass away. Today, I praise the LORD that I have a roof over my head and food in my pantry. I thank Him for giving me more than I would ever need. We are truly a blessed people.

This scripture reminds me of what lately I have asked the Lord “teach us to live with less." What does that really mean? Less of what, food, clothing, hearing the Truth proclaimed, spiritual goose bumps that some say are the way to tell us God is present, manifestations of various kinds? Are we becoming truly one with Christ, knowing His ways? Knowing our God for Who He truly is? Able to stand regardless of what comes? Personally, I want to say 'yes' I am ready. But I am asking myself, “am I?”
