Jonah 4:4

“The LORD said (to Jonah), 'Do you have good reason to be angry?'.” (NASB)

STRONGS HEBREW/GREEK ORIGINS

“The LORD said (to Jonah), 'Do you have good reason to be angry (charah: kindled, wroth, displeased, fret, incensed, grieved, furious)?'.”

SUMMARY

The Lord said to Jonah, after he told the Lord to take His life, for death would be better, “Do you have any good reason to be so displeased and furious?” (also see verse 9.)

MEDITATION

I know this is an odd verse to choose, but I do have a purpose. Lately, I’ve been enamored with the mystery of how God can love a people that do not love Him in return. The majority of all mankind know not God and shake their fists at Him as if He is the cause of all of the worlds calamities. I’ve been reading the account of Jonah and seeing this as well. We grumble, complain and are disobedient and God is only interested in one thing – our obedience to His plans. Today, remember that, if anyone has a right to be angry, it is God alone. If anyone has a right to be vengeful, it is God for most of His prize Creation chooses to go their own way every moment of every day. Will you live a life pleasing to Him alone today?
